Ukraine targets Moscow with more than 1,600 drones on final day of Russian elections

Russian authorities said Moscow came under its largest drone attack of the war so far on Saturday night and Sunday morning, as the country entered the final day of its three-day parliamentary elections. More than 1,600 drones reportedly targeted at the capital region in under 24 hours. Two people were killed in the Moscow region and more than 20 were injured, according to officials.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said 450 of the drones were shot down as they approached the city, though preliminary reports indicated no fatalities in the city proper.

Several drones reached the grounds of the Moscow Oil Refinery, according to Sobyanin, and another struck a residential building. The Telegram channel ASTRA confirmed that the refinery caught fire. It also reported that a drone crashed and exploded near a building at 16 Borisovskiye Prudy Street.

Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said drones fell in several parts of the region, killing at least two people and wounding more than 20.

In the Ramenskoye district, one person was killed and eight were injured, including two children, aged 14 and 15, who were taken to Podolsk Children's Hospital. The roof of a 21-storey apartment building caught fire after being hit by drones. Some 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated, and 20 cars were damaged.

In the village of Sofyino, a drone hit a three-storey residential building, damaging six apartments. A warehouse complex also caught fire. ASTRA identified it as belonging to the company Modern Warehouse Technologies and reported that a Pantsir air-defence system is stationed 500 metres from the site.

In the Orekhovo-Zuyevo urban district, one person was killed in an outbuilding on his own property. Another drone landed on a private residential plot, and a third fell in a wooded area.

In the town of Lyubertsy, two people suffered shrapnel wounds. In Moscow’s Leninsky district, five people were injured. In the village of Molokovo, 18 homes were damaged, while one home each was hit in the villages of Milkovo and Andreyevskoye.

In the town of Kotelniki, two people required medical attention after three apartment buildings in the Novye Kotelniki neighbourhood were hit. Drone debris also fell on a private home and a storage facility. In the town of Domodedovo, five people were injured, including an 11-year-old schoolboy.

Private homes were also damaged in the towns of Kolomna and Yegoryevsk, and fires broke out in apartment buildings in the town of Lytkarino. In the town of Istra, a residential building and a business premises were damaged, with no reported injuries. Damage was also reported in the town of Voskresensk.
